Visiting The Kelowna Wellness Clinic

We know that visiting a new place and getting to know new people can sometimes be a scary event, especially if it is a doctor's office.  That is why we have taken extra steps to ensure that your experience will be as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.  On your first visit, Dr. Stehmeier will go over the concerns that you have about your health from your paperwork and then determine if you are a good candidate for care.  If it is determined that we can assist you, a detailed chiropractic examination will follow.  These exams and findings will assist Dr. Stehmeier in evaluating what is the best course to take in trying to relieve your problem, and get you back on the road to health.

Follow Up Visit (2nd day)

The most important component of care at The Kelowna Wellness Clinic is the quality, that is why all care is given on the second visit, this allows Dr. Stehmeier to do a complete analysis and evaluation on the previous visit's exams.  From these exams a detailed report will be given which will help you completely understand the results of the findings.  If a correction is necessary then a specific adjustment will be given to the upper neck area or C-1 vertebrae; correcting the positional relationship between the skull and cervical spine is crucial to proper body balance and good health.  Immediatley after the adjsutment a biomechanical evaluative x-ray will be taken to ensure that the best possible correction was given.  From here, we want all our patients to rest in our specially designed relaxation room to allow your body time to adapt to it's new, aligned position.  The two visits will last about one hour each so please budget your time appropriately to allow us to do the best work that we can.

Laying the Foundation

Chiropractic care is like building a house – certain things have to happen in a particular order in order for everything to stand strong and work correctly. When building a house, if you tried to put up your walls before you had a solid foundation, your walls would be weak and eventually collapse. If you tried to put on your roof before the walls were ready, you would run into the same problem. The same is true for your body. Your body has to go through a particular plan of care in order to repair itself correctly and fully. There are three general phases of chiropractic care . . .

Phase 1: Relief Care

If you are in pain when you come into our office, the first objective is to help you feel better. Depending on the severity of your problem, it is typical to need care 1-2 times per week for 6-8 weeks.

Phase 2: Corrective/Restorative Care

During the corrective care phase, muscles and other tissues are allowed to heal more completely, thereby helping prevent injury. It is typical to need care 1to 2 times per month, depending on your overall health and the severity of your problem. Our goal at the Kelowna Wellness Clinic is to get you well with as few adjustments as possible.

Phase 3: Wellness Care

Once your body has fully healed, it is important to come for periodic adjustments to avoid problems in the future. This is considered the most important phase of care as this helps the body maintain a healthy environment allowing one to function properly.  Just like regular maintenace on your car or a check-up at the dentist's office, regular spinal maintenance is crucial for health.  At the Kelowna Wellness Clinic, wellness programs are tailored to the individual needs of the patient; on average a once a quarter visit schedule is recommended.
